A Hymn for God's People

Ronnie and I are no longer employed by Liberty Heights Church. I'm not going to give details as to why, so please don't ask. This blog is not a place for discussions like that. Suffice it to say, we are confident in our decision, though deeply saddened by leaving. Even as I've faced the challenges these recent events present for us, I am also aware of the challenges before the people of God at LHC. God is good and he cares for his flock. I pray that Jesus would be lifted up among them. As I've prayed for them, the following hymn is brought to mind. May God's grace abound.

O church, arise and put your armor on;
Hear the call of Christ our captain;
For now the weak can say that they are strong
In the strength that God has given.
With shield of faith and belt of truth
We’ll stand against the devil’s lies;
An army bold whose battle cry is “Love!”
Reaching out to those in darkness.

Our call to war, to love the captive soul,
But to rage against the captor;
And with the sword that makes the wounded whole
We will fight with faith and valor.
When faced with trials on ev’ry side,
We know the outcome is secure,
And Christ will have the prize for which He died—
An inheritance of nations.

Come, see the cross where love and mercy meet,
As the Son of God is stricken;
Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet,
For the Conqueror has risen!
And as the stone is rolled away,
And Christ emerges from the grave,
This vict’ry march continues till the day
Ev’ry eye and heart shall see Him.

So Spirit, come, put strength in ev’ry stride,
Give grace for ev’ry hurdle,
That we may run with faith to win the prize
Of a servant good and faithful.
As saints of old still line the way,
Retelling triumphs of His grace,
We hear their calls and hunger for the day
When, with Christ, we stand in glory.

Emily, I will be praying for you all to find a new place to serve and grow. I know it will work, 'cause God always listens harder when really stubborn people pray! :-)

I will pray for you as he leads you to your next placen of service. Not asking for a comment but saying--I sure hope your resignation was not caused because of your views about the role of women in the church. That issue is so divisive in so many churches.

Tom, I appreciate your question. Thankfully, our resignation had nothing to do with my views, on women or anything else. Thanks for your concern.

Emily,

I'm sorry to hear that you all have resigned. I trust and pray that the Lord will lead you to a new place of service soon where your gifts and passion can be utilized to the maximum.

Emily, I'm so sad to hear you left. We were just beginning to get to know eachother and I was very much looking forward to knowing you more. I pray that God will in fact be with you both and the baby. Please keep in touch.

It had to be the Rook cards!

One church I was a member was lucky enough to get this truly wonderful pastor fresh out of seminary a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far...)

Anyway, things were going great until, I kid you not, the churchy ones got bent out of shape because the pastor's wife was discovered to have played Rook with some of the GA girls at a gathering. Y'see, that was 'cards' and we know that all cards leads to a gambling habit and, pretty soon, you're in cahoots with the Indigent Baptists or the Presbyterians. But enough about SBTS already....!

I pray that you soon find the place and plan God has for you. For we know that God is at work everywhere. We just need to recognize and identify what, where how, when and who.
May the peace that can only come from the Holy Spirit surround you both as you search for the answers to the above questions.
Your blogging is one of the blessings in my life.
